HACKETSTOWN COMMUNITY GAMES: Hacketstown Community Games committee would like to congratulate all of the children who took part on Sunday, July 21 in the Leinster finals in Newbridge. The teams who represented the area were the U10, 12, and 14 draughts teams and the U12 boys soccer team. All of these children put in a tremendous effort into their team events both in training and in competition on the day.

The U12 boys soccer team were narrowly defeated by the Kildare Champions Newbridge by 1 goal to nil in the semi final. It is the first time in over 12 years that a team from the area has won the County finals, let alone represent Carlow in the Leinsters. All credit must go to their trainer/managers Robert Rooney and Anthony Byrne and of course to the team themselves who played a great game of football on the day and were very unlucky not to come away winners.

The team were as follows: William Rooney, Michael Murray, Shane Murphy, Enda McGrath, PJ Byrne, Shane Keogh, William Byrne, Kevin McCarney, Niall Humphries, William Doran, James Doyle, Steven Doyle, Darren McGrath and David Kelly.

Congratulations and well done to the three draughts teams. All three teams won their games in the semi finals to advance to the finals, with the U10 and U14 teams winning their games and going on to represent the area in the National finals in Mosney in August. The U12 teams were unlucky on the day not to come away winners but well done to everyone who competed and also many thanks to their managers and helpers throughout the last couple of weeks.

Special thanks must go to Mary Hennessy and Seamus Kavanagh and also to John Byrne, Catherine Doyle, Noeleen Hickey, Brian Fagan and Deirdre Cullen.

The U10 team were-Deirdre Cahill, Mark Hennessy, Micheala Flynn, Aine Byrne, Richard Bulmer, Gordon Hickey, and Niall Fagan. The U12 team were-Ryan Hickey, Patrick Doyle, Shauna Kennedy, Shane Howard, Keith Byrne, Grace Murphy and Sarah Fortune-Milne. The U14 team were-Padraig Hennessy, Michelle Cullen, Robert Tompkins, Bryan Flynn, Patrick Gahan, Orlaith Fagan and William Doyle.

We have a total of 14 children going to Mosney in August to represent the area, with Patrick Gahan competing in the U14 draughts and also in the U13 walk.
